Charlie's Aunt sewing patterns
Posted on Saturday, September 4 2010 by Emma in category Sewing-patterns THERE has been a great reaction to the sewing patterns I designed for Indygo Junction and I am thrilled that people seem to realise that they are "different" to what's on offer elsewhere. They launched at the Spring Quilt Fair in the US and apparently went down very well with distributors and buyers.
The only frustrating thing on my part is that people will not necessarily know they are mine because it just says "A Charlie's Aunt Design" at the bottom of the pattern cover and that's the only mention I get (and this is cut off on most websites where they are for sale!). I guess because I have worked really hard building a reputation of sorts via my books, I am finding it hard that these two patterns are not part of my own collection. My patterns are my babies and I didn't realise how hard it would be to let go....or to let someone else take the credit for my ideas! The patterns and the concept behind them are such an important part of me.
So, I have decided to forge ahead with my own line of Charlie's Aunt patterns which will all be packaged in my own style and will be part of a lovely collection of purse and accessory patterns that will build over the years. I am not really in to all of the bright mismatching patchwork fabrics (as those of you who have accused me of using "dull" fabrics will know!) and I favour the earthy tweeds and faded vintage looking fabrics with a "harder" edge. This is what I love and my patterns do seem to stand out among the current offerings, partly because of the fabrics and partly because of the vintage styling, unusual shapes and details.
I have prepared four printed patterns for bags, one for hats, and five PDF patterns for purses. Not sure when they will be ready for purchase as I have a few things to sort out in my personal life first. Here is the cover of one of the PDF patterns to give you an idea of what to expect. Please do email me with your thoughts and suggestions.

This is the Good Housekeeping Clutch Bag PDF pattern cover. The pattern has detailed instructions, illustrations and full-sized templates to make this fashionable retro "oversized" clutch bag. |
